An Improved Vision for Outreach and Love

Post Written: April 19, 2017

It’s an amazing journey we’ve been on thus far! 35 Years ago (in 1981) Hands of Hope became just the fifth established Pregnancy Center under the Christian Action Council (now Care Net) which was started by a group of Christians in the home of Billy Graham. When we opened our doors there were nine abortion clinics in our community. Today we are down to one abortion clinic in Tucson, and Pima County has seen the largest decrease in abortions in the state!

Looking at our current path and where we envision Christ’s leading into the future, we’ve never been more sure of our approach and our course. We are proud to be a part of the reason why abortion is decreasing in Pima County, but while it is diminishing, there will always be lives that need saving and hearts that need mending.

Over our 35 years serving the families of Pima County, we’ve been met with many challenges, but have been blessed to always have a clear path laid out before us. We always strive to be the best stewards of the resources that you, our donors, entrust us with. With that in mind, we have prayerfully decided to merge our South Center into our Central Center. This puts our team together in the best location for serving all of Pima County and provides us with better access to our existing resources such as bilingual staff, equipment, and more. It also allows the Central Center Director and other key staff to be freed up to promote our services and have greater outreach to ALL of Tucson, not just the central and south areas.

With 50% of our incoming clients considering abortion, we believe we can actually reach more abortion-minded and abortion-vulnerable women by consolidating our team and our efforts. Our team can spend less time juggling various responsibilities and spend more time focusing on their gifts to better serve each of our clients.

We are so thankful for God's people who heard His voice and joined us at the South Center over the years. To the staff, volunteers, encouragers, and intercessors along the way - we say thank you! With your support, Kingdom work was certainly accomplished and many lives saved. We’ll need all of you (and more) to help push forth our even larger vision from our Central Center.

We also want to say a special “Thank You!” to Lita Perez, our South Center Director. She will be retiring in June of 2017 after nearly 18 years of faithful service.

“After all these years, we have a resolve to stay ‘mission true’ by providing care to the most vulnerable and abortion-minded women in our community, providing education that leads to preventing unplanned pregnancies and offering a path to healing for those struggling with a past abortion decision.”

- Elisa Medina, Director of Programs

As we look to the future, would you please join us with your financial support? Help us reach as many women as possible BEFORE they make an abortion decision.

Join us in the fight for life until we make abortion unthinkable!
